Dry Eye Assessment
The Dry Eye Assessment is designed to fully investigate the cause and effects of each individual’s dry eye symptoms.
A Dry Eye Assessment at Peepers Opticians is designed to fully investigate the cause and effects of each individual’s dry eye symptoms. The results of this examination allow us to formulate a tailor-made treatment plan for long-term dry eye management.
A Dry Eye Assessment Includes:
Assessment of the ocular surface and tear film – this will include the installation of diagnostic dyes. These dyes are painless and do not affect your vision, and provide vital information regarding the health and quality of the front surface of the eye and the tear film
Assessment of the eyelids and lashes – to investigate how the tear glands are functioning and to determine whether other ocular conditions are present, e.g. blepharitis
Assessment of tear quality – to determine the stability of the tear film and how it interacts with the ocular surface
A full treatment plan to include further treatments, at-home remedies, or a mixture of two, depending on each individual’s dry eye status
What Are the Treatment Options for Dry Eyes?
If the Dry Eye Assessment reveals that further treatment is necessary, your specialist optometrist may recommend one, or a combination of, the following specialist dry eye treatment options:
Preservative-free eye drops (artificial tears)
Gel-based eye drops – for overnight use
Hot compress masks or Eye Bags with reusable inserts
Omega Oil Liquid Supplements or Omega Oil Capsules
Blepharitis Treatments including lid wipes and lotions
A Dry Eye Assessment is Recommended for:
Any individuals suffering from the symptoms listed
Anyone wanting a thorough health check of their anterior eye (front surface of the eye), which is not included in a standard eye examination
